Eleven days of riding parallel to the Appalachian Trail from North Carolina to West Virginia.

The Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and Virginia may not be as big and mighty as the Colorado Rockies, but do not be fooled. These lush, green, azalea cover hills can be a real challenge. The topography of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive is like a rollercoaster. Along the way, we will travel through the beautiful art district of Asheville, climb Mount Mitchell, follow the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. We pass through charming small mountain towns of Little Switzerland, Blowing Rock and Glendale before entering southern VA. Just a few smaller hills in Fancy Gap and The Meadows of Dan to go before we then enter Virginia Horse country. We spend a relaxed riding day in Lexington and the Shenandoah Valley before the climb back to the top of Skyline Drive. From here, we will see West Virginia and Pensylvania on a clear day. Our wheels will touch the ground for a short while in West VA , but long enough to take in the history of the Civil War Battlefields and Harpers Ferry.
